The Superintendent released her recommendations this week about school closures, with details here. There is a schedule there of public hearings if you would like to give input. I don't know what to say about the plan except that people deal with change in different ways. And also that like many others in the country, we've got a district stratified by race and class. That's about all.

As an insider, here are my two cents: some of the closures are crap and really unfair and a total situation of schools with less money being thrown under the bus by schools with more (ie, Cooper). Others seems reasonable and smart considering population and numbers and growth (restructuring of Summit, close of AAA). All in all, having to make this decision is crummy no matter what, and I'm glad that I didn't, and I don't think that MGJ was intentionally trying to hurt people or communities.
